Unchained Melody was a classic love song, written by Alex North and Hy Zaret and recorded by many artists. Todd Duncan first recorded the song for the 1955 movie Unchained. That same year, Unchained Melody received extensive play by many artists, as was the trend in music at the time. The Les Baxter instrumental and chorus version was the most popular. The Al Hibbler version came out at the same time and was very famous too. In 1965, The duo The Righteous Brothers brought the song back to become a number 4 hit. In 1990, The Righteous Brothers version was used in the movie Ghost and the song made it back into the top 20, so the duo got together and recorded the song again. In the meantime, many top artists had success with the song, many of them recording it live.
