In 1948, Perez Prado made an instrumental version of the song, then called Mambo Number 5, which was popular. The industrial sounding 4-D Marketing apparently did not receive airplay with any other song.

In 1948, Perez Prado made Mambo Number 5 popular. Lou Bega added words to the instrumental, and changed the title slightly. Mambo No. 5 (A Little Bit Of...) was the only top 20 hit for Lou Bega. The follow-up, Tricky Tricky, was a top 30 song.
