Just A Friend
borrowed from (You) Got What I Need by Freddie Scott. The song
was the only top 20 hit for Biz Markie, but the group had a
few songs that received some soul radio airplay. In 2002, Mario
took a remake, Just A Friend 2002, to number 3.
Hello was the
only rock top 20 song by alternative dance group The Beloved,
reaching number
18. Also, in 1990,
the group had a rock top 20 near miss with Sweet Harmony.
If U Were Mine
was the first and biggest song by The
U-Krew, reaching the top 30. The group followed-up
the song with two less known rap songs. If U Were Mine was from
the album The U-Krew.
Whole Wide World
was the only top 20 hit song for A'Me Lorain. The follow-up,
Follow My Heartbeat, received some radio airplay. The song was
from the movie True Love.
Seven O'Clock
was the only rock top 20 hit for The London Quireboys, who had
received some rock airplay in 1988
with There She Goes Again.

Although House
Of Pain was the only rock top 20 hit for Faster
Pussycat, the group received quite a bit of rock
airplay for other songs. House Of Pain was from the album Wake
Me When It's Over.
Turtle Power
was the only top
20 hit by Partners In Kryme. the duo released other
songs too, like On A Lonely Road, which received minor radio
airplay. Turtle Power! was from the movie Teenage Mutant
Ninja Turtles.
While Flying
Under Radar was the only rock
top 20 hit for Jerry Harrison, his other popular
song, Rev It Up, was a long-running rock top 20 near miss in
1988.
Album rock group
Electric Boys made the rock
top 20 once with All Lips N' Hips, but missed with
the slightly played 1992
song Mary In The Mystery World.
Little Caesar
was a guitar rock band. There were other groups at different
times with similar names. This band had a single rock
top 20 hit with its remake of this 1968
number 2 hit by Aretha
Franklin. A few months later, in 1991,
the group received rock play with In Your Arms.
I Melt With
You was a rock
top 20 hit in 1983, and made the pop top 20 in 1990.
Modern
English never had another pop or rock top 20 hit,
but had a string of alternative songs that received some radio
airplay. I Melt With You was from the album After The Snow.
I'll Be Your
Chauffeur was the only rock
top 20 hit for David J. He received minor radio airplay
with other songs too, like Blue Moods Turning Tail. David J
was the bassist in Bauhaus.
Tic-Tac-Toe
borrowed from the 1983 number one
song Owner Of A Lonely Heart by Yes. While Tic-Tac-toe was the
only top
20 hit for Kyper, he had other songs that received
minor radio airplay like Life Is Hard.
The top 20 hit
song Knockin' Boots borrowed from Ooh Boy by Rose
Royce. Candyman did not have another top 20 song,
but received some airplay with Melt In Your Mouth just over
a year later.
Hippychick borrowed
from How Soon Is Now by The Smiths. A few months after Hippychick
became the group's only top 20 hit song, Soho received slight
radio airplay with the song Freaky.
In 1968,
Otis Redding received moderate airplay with his version of Hard
To Handle. This remake by The Black Crowes was a top 20 one
hit wonder by The Black Crowes, but the group received
pop airplay with many songs, including She Talks To Angels,
a top 20 near miss. On rock stations, The Black Crowes had a
long string of number one songs. The Black Crowes song was from
the album Shake Your Money Maker.
