Get Dancin'
was a top 20 one
hit wonder for Disco Tex. It was followed with other
songs that were popular in discos, including I Wanna Dance Wit'
Choo, which was a top 20 near miss.
Up In A Puff
Of Smoke was a top 20 one
hit wonder for Polly Brown. She released a few other
songs that received slight play. In 1970,
Polly Brown was in Pickettywitch, and the group had three UK
top 20 songs, and later with group Sweet Dreams which, in 1975,
had a UK top 10 hit with a remake of Honey
Honey by Abba.
Lovin' You was
the only top 20 hit for Minnie Riperton, whose follow-up, Inside
My Love, received extensive soul and jazz play. Minnie Riperton
was well known in those circles for her legendary vocal range.
Although Sad
Sweet Dreamer was the only top 20 hit by Sweet Sensation, the
group received minor radio airplay for other songs like Purely
By Coincidence. This group Sweet Sensation was from the UK.
In the 1980s
, another unrelated group also called Sweet
Sensation had a string of popular songs. That second
group was from New York City.
Jackie Blue
was a top 20 one
hit wonder for Ozark Mountain Daredevils. Almost
a year earlier, the group had a top 20 near miss with If You
Wanna Get To Heaven.
Shaving Cream
was originally released in 1946. The song was banned from some
radio stations, but a following of Benny Bell developed. In
1975, as a result of exposure by
Dr. Demento, the song became
more popular. Benny Bell also received some radio airplay and
jukebox play in the 1940s with songs like Sweet Violets and
Take A Ship For Yourself.
Autobahn was
the most popular song by dance alternative group Kraftwerk.
The group had a string of less known tunes, most of which did
not crossover to pop stations.
Ease On Down
The Road was the only top 20 hit, and the only song that received
mentionable airplay, for Consumer Rapport. In 1978, a version
of this song by Diana
Ross & Michael
Jackson became a number 18 hit. The song was from
the show The Wiz.
How Long was
the only top 20 hit for Ace. The group followed-up with Rock
And Roll Runaway, which received minor radio play. In 1982,
Rod
Stewart remade the song and it became popular again.
Ace featured lead singer Paul
Carrack, who also sang with Squeeze
and Mike
+ The Mechanics. Ace's How Long was from the album
Five-A-Side (An Ace Album).
Although I'm
Not Lisa was the only top 20 hit for Jessi Colter, she had a
string of songs that were popular on country stations like her
1970
duet with Waylon Jennings, Suspicious Minds. That song was also
a 1969
number one hit for Elvis
Presley.
Although Magic
was the only top 20 hit for Pilot,
the group had a string of songs that received some radio airplay,
like January. Pilot was led by singer and multi-instrumentalist
David Paton, who also sang and played extensively for The
Alan Parsons Project and Camel.
The mostly instrumentalone
hit wonder song The Hustle was a number
one song and the only top 20 hit for Van McCoy. He
followed up with a string of fairly popular dance and soul songs
like Change With The Times. The Hustle was written by Van McCoy.
Dynomite was
a popular saying by J.J. Walker on the comedy TV show Good
Times, and a top 20 one
hit wonder hit. This group, sometimes called Tony
Camillo's Bazuka, Bazuka Featuring Tony Camillo, or simply Bazuka,
had a few other songs that received slight radio airplay like
Love Explosion. Dynomite was written by Tony Camillo.
Although Rockin'
Chair was the only top 20 hit for Gwen McCrae, she had a string
of popular soul and dance songs like Funky Sensation. The song
was from the album Rockin' Chair.
Feelings spent
12 weeks in the top 20 -- a very long time for a song in the
70s. It continued to receive extensive airplay for months after,
and became a classic. Morris Albert was sued for stealing Feelings
from another song. He lost the lawsuit, and 88 percent of the
royalties. Morris Albert followed up with Sweet Loving Man,
which received slight radio airplay.
Do It Any Way
You Wanna was a top 20 one
hit wonder for People's Choice. The group had many
popular soul, funk, and dance songs that did not receive much
crossover play.
Sky High was
a top 20 one
hit wonder for Jigsaw. The group had other popular
dance songs, including the follow up, Love Fire, which received
moderate play.
