Smokin' In The
Boys Room was the only top 20 hit for Brownsville Station. The
group had a string of album rock songs that received radio airplay,
like I'm The Leader Of The Gang.
The background
music on Americans was America The Beautiful. This song was
originally called The Americans (A Canadian's Opinion) when
it was done by Gordon Sinclair in 1973. The Byron MacGregor
version was the most popular version in the United States, but
both versions received airplay. Byron MacGregor, a news director,
never had another popular song.
Seasons In The
Sun was the 1974
top song of the year, and a top 20 one
hit wonder for Terry Jacks. The video featured here
was a live performance. Terry Jacks received some airplay with
other songs, and he and his sister Susan Jacks were members
of The Poppy Family. About ten years earlier, in 1964,
The Kingston Trio recorded its version
of Seasons In The Sun. The song was from the album Seasons
In The Sun. Jacques Brel wrote the song.
Although Rock
On was the only top 20 hit for David Essex, he had a few other
songs that received minor radio airplay like Lamplight. In 1989,
the Michael
Damian remake of Rock On became a number
one hit.
My Sweet Lady
was the only top 20 hit for actor Cliff DeYoung. He did not
have another song which received mentionable radio airplay.
However, this song and a song Sunshine were both from the movie
Sunshine. John Denver wrote the song.
Rock And Roll,
Hoochie Koo was the only top 20 song for Rick Derringer. He
had some other solo songs that received radio airplay including
a remake of Hang On Sloopy, which was a 1965 number one
hit for The McCoys. Rick Derringer had been the lead singer
of The McCoys.
The Lord's Prayer
was the only top 20 hit by Sister Janet Mead. She followed-up
with Take My Hand which received minor airplay. Sister Janet
was an Australian nun who wanted to bring hip rock music into
her teachings with the church.
Although the
top 20 near miss song Tell Me A Lie was the greatest hit by
Sami Jo, she followed up with a string of songs that received
some country radio airplay, including It Could Have Been Me,
which was played on pop stations also.

TSOP (The
Sound Of Philadelphia) MFSB
Featuring The Three Degrees
TSOP became
the theme for TV show Soul Train. MFSB
stood for Mothers Fathers Sisters Brothers. MFSB had a string
of soul and instrumental
songs that received radio airplay. The Three Degrees also had
a string of hits including the 1974 number 2 song When Will
I See You Again. The writers of this song were: Kenny Gamble,
Leon Huff.
While Tubular
Bells was a top 20 one
hit wonder for Mike Oldfield, he had a string of
instrumental
songs that received pop and rock radio airplay, including the
1988 number 8 rock
top 20 song Magic Touch. Tubular Bells was written
by Mike Oldfield. The song was from the production The Exorcist.
Marvin Hamlisch
was a well-known arranger and producer. The instrumentalone
hit wonder The Entertainer was a 1902 popular ragtime
song by Scott Joplin. Marvin Hamlisch never had another solo
song that received any significant radio airplay. Scott Joplin
wrote the song. The song was from the movie The Sting.
While Be Thankful
For What You Got was the only top 20 hit for William DeVaughn,
he had a few other songs that received some airplay, like Blood
Is Thicker Than Water.

And The Sunshine Band wrote, produced, and performed
Rock Your Baby, except that George McCrae sang lead vocals.
George McCrae went on to receive radio play with many other
songs including I Can't Leave You Alone.
Although The
Night Chicago Died was the only top 20 hit for Paper Lace, the
group had other songs that received some airplay. Paper Lace
did the original version of Billy, Don't Be A Hero, a big international
song. A few months later, Bo Donaldson And The Heywoods made
it a number
one hit.
Although Hang
On In There Baby was the only top 20 hit by Johnny Bristol,
he had a string of popular songs that received soul radio airplay,
like Do It To My Mind.
Tony
Burrows sang Beach Baby. The
First Class received slight radio airplay with other
songs too. Tony
Burrows as singer had many other top 20 hit songs.
Beach Baby was from the album The First Class. The writers
of this song were: John Carter, Gillian Shakespeare.
Sugar Pie Guy
was the only top 20 hit for soul and dance group The Joneses.
This song was the follow-up of Hey Babe (Is The Gettin' Still
Good?), which received minor play earlier in the year. Sugar
Pie Guy was written by Glenn Dorsey.
Reunion followed-up
its only top 20 hit Life Is A Rock with the song Disco-Tekin
about a year later. Reunion lead singer Joey Levine was also
in the group The Ohio Express. Reunion was a part of the family
of fantasy groups of Kasenetz-Katz Singing Orchestral Chorus.
Don't Send Nobody
Else was the most popular song by soul group Ace Spectrum, and
a top 20 near miss. The group received minor radio airplay with
Trust Me also. Don't Send Nobody Else was from the album Inner
Spectrum. Ashford
& Simpson wrote the song.
After I Can
Help, Billy Swan had a string of popular country songs, some
receiving pop radio airplay, like I'm Her Fool.
